EDUCATOR NOTES

How to use
this activity.

What’s inside

  • Educator guide with shape-learning goals and flexible steps
  • Friendly haunted house shape hunt with four labeled shape tiles
  • Open creation page for a house made from shapes

Gather a few things

  • Printed activity pages
  • Crayons, pencils or washable markers
  • Optional: large counters or stickers, used with adult supervision

Try it together

  1. 1

Look at the house together and notice its friendly Halloween details.

  2. 2

Choose a shape tile and point to or circle that shape in the house. Find the triangle roof, square windows, circle window and rectangle door.

  3. 3

On the creation page, use shapes to make your own friendly house. Draw, trace or tell an adult where to add the shapes.

  4. 4

Invite the learner to show a favorite shape or describe their house.

Make it your way

  • Offer two shapes at a time. Point to the house part while naming its shape.
  • Trace a shape together, or let the learner choose where an adult draws it.
  • Accept looking, pointing, words, gestures or adult-recorded choices. Skip any step and respect a request to pause.
  • For more challenge, find the same shape in a different size or position, or add several examples of one shape and count them together.

Participation can mean making, choosing, observing or directing a partner.
