EDUCATOR NOTES

How to use
this activity.

What’s inside

  • Educator guide with adult preparation instructions and flexible participation ideas
  • Write-in name-matching page with one model box and three choice boxes
  • Large name-art frame for friendly Halloween pictures and marks

Gather a few things

  • Printed pages
  • Pen for adult preparation
  • Crayons or markers

Try it together

  1. 1

Prepare page 2: write the learner's name in the top box, then write that same name once and two different names in the three choice boxes. Mix the order and use the same clear lettering style, size and letter case in all four boxes.

  2. 2

Read the top name together. Invite the learner to look at the letters and find the matching name below by pointing, saying, circling or placing a marker beside it.

  3. 3

Prepare page 3 by writing the chosen name in the large frame. Invite the learner to decorate around it with pumpkins, friendly ghosts, stars or their own marks, keeping the letters readable.

  4. 4

Invite the learner to show their name or notice a favorite letter. They may draw, choose colors or tell an adult what to add.

Make it your way

  • Begin with only two choices and keep the model name visible.
  • Point to the first letter together or compare the names side by side.
  • Accept looking, gestures, spoken choices or adult-recorded responses. Handwriting and reading aloud are not required; pause or skip any step.
  • For more challenge, choose names that start with the same letter to look beyond the first letter, or find the familiar name without the model.

Participation can mean making, choosing, observing or directing a partner.
